Our client was in a bind. A doctor with a tight schedule, an expert witness whose testimony was crucial to the outcome of their case, was unable to travel from Boston, MA to Springfield, IL to testify at trial. The client contacted HG Litigation to see if we could help. Our solution: set up our mobile videoconferencing equipment in the courtroom to connect with a Boston videoconferencing location so that the doctor could testify remotely. This enabled the busy doctor to spend just a few hours away from his practice as opposed to several days to travel to the trial location, deliver his testimony and travel back home.
Overcoming obstacles such as the absence of necessary hardware in the courtroom, no available courtroom time for testing (trial was in progress and court was in session daily during all operating hours), and firewall issues, HG was able to deliver. The doctor's four-hour testimony was presented seamlessly and in high resolution. The jury's monitor displayed views of the witness and attorney simultaneously via split-screen. The doctor was able to view the attorney's documents and a PowerPoint presentation remotely. The jury's split-screen setup enabled them to view these items as well. Counsel and judge alike were impressed with the technology, and HG left court that day with many a "thank you" and one "you saved our butts."
All in all, a good day for HG, and a great success for our client.
